Eight Consecutive Quarters of Increased Tribal Gaming Contributions A Good Sign for Arizona
PHOENIX – Arizona Department of Gaming announced today that tribal contributions to the state from gaming revenue will be approximately $25.1 million for the quarter that ended June 30, 2012. This is a 2.4 percent increase from the same quarter of last year. It also marks the 8th consecutive quarter increase.
“As the nation continues to deal with a struggling and uncertain economy, an eighth consecutive increase in quarterly tribal gaming contributions is evidence that we are on the right track in Arizona,” said Mark Brnovich, Director of the Arizona Department of Gaming. “In addition to providing strong consumer confidence feedback, this increase in revenue will benefit critical programs throughout the state.”
The quarterly tribal contributions to the Arizona Benefits Fund will be distributed as follows:
Instructional Improvement Fund/Education: $12,495,460
Trauma and Emergency Services Fund: $ 6,247,730
Arizona Department of Gaming operating costs: $ 2,256,403
Arizona Wildlife Conservation Fund: $ 1,785,066
State Tourism Fund: $ 1,785,066
Problem Gambling Education, Treatment and Prevention: $ 501,423
TOTAL tribal contributions for the quarter ended June 30, 2012: $25,071,148
The Arizona Department of Gaming, in partnership with Arizona’s tribes, regulates Indian gaming. Under the Arizona Tribal-State Gaming Compact, tribes with casinos contribute one to eight percent of their Class III gross gaming revenue to the state, cities, towns and counties. In Arizona, Class III gaming includes slot machines, jackpot poker, blackjack, keno and off-track pari-mutuel betting. There are currently 22 Class III casinos in the state. Tribes send contributions to the state Arizona Benefits Fund every three months.
